This exercise aims to improve the way students move their feet in a battement glissé en croix starting from 1st position. The resistance band helps with their leg activation while preventing assisting with the twist of the hips and pronation of the ankles .
Preparation: They will need a 3m (10ft) resistance band. Whilst sitting, the band is wrapped around the thighs, wrapping it twice in an outward direction on each thigh.
Steps:
1. Facing the ballet barre with feet in 1st position.
2. Position the resistance band over the barre making sure it is wider than the body.
3. Guide students to perform battement glissé devant, à la seconde, and derrière.
4. Include an Elevé (rise) movement ensuring the pressure is evenly distributed between all the toes.
5. Repeat all steps with the opposite leg.
Focus: Pay attention to the students alignment of their hips as well as their ankle stability.
