Welcome to Mobility Class 5, guided by Stephanie Petersen.
This class focuses on developing core strength, improving hip mobility, and activating the hamstrings and posterior chain to support efficient movement. Throughout the session, dancers will work to maintain stability through the pelvis and torso while building coordination and endurance across the body.
Exercises such as Hamstring & Glute Warm-up and Endurance Full Body Flow begin the class by activating the hamstrings, glutes, abdominals, and upper body, helping establish pelvic stability and prepare the body for the core and rotation work that follows.
Core & Obliques and Hip Opening with Rotation place greater emphasis on the oblique abdominals, where dancers develop coordination between the torso and lower body while exploring rotational mobility through the hips.
The class continues with Sideways Bend with Adage Combination and Grand Adage, combining sustained leg extensions with coordinated upper-body movement. The session concludes with flexibility work to restore length after the strengthening exercises.
Tips
• Encourage dancers to maintain stability through the pelvis during exercises involving leg movement, particularly when working through hip rotation and extensions.
• Watch students in Core & Obliques and Hip Opening with Rotation; cue rotation from the spine with pelvic stability and oblique engagement.
• Encourage controlled, continuous movement rather than momentum, especially during core and coordination exercises.
