This exercise is designed to enhance dancers' ability to control off-balance moves, specifically when transferring the weight from one foot to another. It is essential for developing the skill of executing tombé with precision and fluidity, a fundamental aspect of ballet.
Preparation: Position two ballet barres on either side of the student. Place the calf muscle on a fit ball in devant and double check hip alignment. Hands should rest on each barre, slightly in front of the shoulders.
Steps:
1. Students begin with a fondu (plié), rise (elevé). Then, they tombé en avant into an arabesque en fondu.
2. Recover and pivot (promenade) to face the opposite side.
3. Repeat and pivot to face the barre in à la seconde. Incorporate port de bras de côté and recover.
4. Follow with a fondu, rise, and tombé into à la seconde.
5. Recover and pivot to face the opposite side. Repeat the whole sequence, starting on the alternate side.
Focus:Emphasise the importance of maintaining hip alignment throughout the exercise. Ensure that the tombé and arabesque movements are controlled and fluid.
