This exercise is aimed at enhancing ankle stability through the execution of parallel marches, crucial for developing the strength and control needed for pointe work, focusing on the precision of foot placement and the smooth transition of weight. It is designed to cultivate a strong foundation in students, ensuring students have the necessary support and stability for more advanced ballet techniques.
Preparation: Have students begin standing with the right foot derrière in classical pose, ensuring a correct starting position for balance and alignment.
Steps:
1. Instruct students to execute 7 parallel marches en avant, maintaining a relaxed arm posture to focus on the stability and movement of the legs and feet.
2. Guide students to roll through the metatarsals on the left foot, transitioning smoothly back into classical pose with the right arm in 3rd position, emphasising control and precision.
3. Lead students into 2 slow walks followed by 5 quick walks in a semi-circle to the right side, coordinating arm movements to enhance balance and grace.
4. Have students conclude the sequence by finishing the last walk with the left foot derrière in classical pose, preparing for the transition to the alternate side.
5. Have students repeat the entire sequence on the alternate side, ensuring equal practice and development of both legs and feet.
Focus: Stress the importance of maintaining correct foot alignment and ankle stability throughout the exercise, particularly when rolling through the metatarsals to prevent injury.
