This is a sophisticated exercise aimed at perfecting the développé écarte alignment. It utilises the fit ball to provide students with immediate feedback on their pelvic stability, which is necessary for the proper execution of this movement. This exercise also focuses on enhancing coordination between the arms and legs, while fostering an awareness of the body's line and posture.
Preparation:
Begin by having the student kneel close to the wall, positioning the fit ball near their hip. This setup ensures the student starts with the necessary support and alignment. If required a roll up mat can support the wrist on the floor.
Steps:
1. Instruct the student to roll sideways onto the fit ball, placing one hand on the floor for stability with the elbow relaxed. The feet should press against the wall in 5th position, maintaining hip alignment throughout.
2. Guide the student through a développé écarté, incorporating a coordinated port de bras to enhance the movement's fluidity.
3. Follow with an enveloppé, returning to 5th position with another coordinated port de bras.
4. Repeat this sequence four times before switching to the alternate side.
Focus:
Stress the importance of keeping the pelvis stable and aligned, particularly as the leg extends and retracts. The coordination of the port de bras with the leg movement is key to achieving a harmonious and controlled execution.
