M.F.A. Dance, M.S. Communication
Sarah Wilcoxon, holding an M.F.A. in Dance from Florida State University and an M.S. in Communication from Illinois State University, serves as an Associate Professor of Dance at Missouri State University. At MSU, Sarah oversees dance for the Musical Theatre Program and leads the department's Performer Wellness Initiative. Specializing in musical theatre direction and choreography at the collegiate and professional-regional levels, she extends her expertise to film, where her award-winning dance films have been featured in various national and international film festivals. Beyond her roles in directing and choreography, Sarah is deeply committed to fostering healthy cultures for performing athletes. She holds a comprehensive STOTT Pilates Certification and functions as a Tutor for Progressing Ballet Technique. Presenting her research on wellness and injury risk management for performers, she has contributed to conferences such as the Pilates Method Alliance, the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science (earning a Teacher of the Year nomination in 2020), the Central States Communication Association, and the National Communication Association. Her collaborative research with the Physical Therapy department at Missouri State on safe flooring for dance was published in the Journal of Dance Medicine and Science in 2023.
Sarah's expertise in dancer wellness has gained recognition in Dance Magazine, Dance Teacher Magazine, and Authority Magazine. Outside the realm of dance, she cherishes moments with her family and two chihuahuas.
