PBT Connect Safeguarding

These are the rules every PBT Connect teacher agrees to for lessons with under-18 students. Parents can read them too.

PBT Connect Safe Teaching Guide for Under-18 Lessons

Version 2026-10-06-v2

Teaching children safely on PBT Connect

Before you start

  • Teach from a quiet space with a tidy background, in normal dance-teaching clothes, with no one else on your side of the call.
  • Begin only after the parent is on camera and you have pressed "Parent present: begin lesson".
  • Ask the parent to set the camera in a shared family room so you can see the child's whole body.

During the lesson

  • Correct with words and your own demonstration, never touch. If a hands-on adjustment would help, ask the parent to help.
  • Talk about movement, never about a child's weight, shape or looks. Praise effort and progress.
  • Warm up first. Never force flexibility. Stop at once if the child feels pain or dizziness, and tell the parent. No pointe assessments or injury advice online.
  • Never ask a child to change or adjust clothing on camera.
  • Keep it short and simple for young children; respect a teenager's wish to stop an exercise.
  • If the parent leaves, pause. If they do not come back within a few minutes, end the lesson. You will still be paid.

After the lesson

  • Give practice notes to the parent and keep notes only in PBT Connect. End the call for everyone.

If something worries you

  • Write down what you saw and heard and email customerservice@pbt.dance within 24 hours. If a child is in immediate danger, call the local emergency services first.
  • If a family contacts you outside PBT Connect, do not reply. Forward it to PBT.

Never record or screenshot a lesson, contact a child or family outside PBT Connect, teach without the parent present, or share anything about the child.

PBT Connect Teacher Child Lesson Terms

Version 2026-10-06-v1

Teaching under-18 students on PBT Connect

These terms apply when a student under 18 is booked into your lesson. They add to the PBT Connect Teacher Terms you have already accepted. If anything here conflicts with those terms, these apply for child lessons.

1. Who you are teaching

  • A parent or legal guardian holds the account, books the lesson, and must be present and supervising for the whole lesson. The child never has their own account and cannot message you.
  • Before the lesson you will see the child's first name or preferred name and age in years. You will not see where the child lives, and you must not ask for the child's surname, address, school, phone number, social media or any other personal detail.

2. Starting and running the lesson

  • Do not start teaching until you have confirmed "Parent present: begin lesson" in the session screen. That confirmation is recorded.
  • If at any point you believe the parent or guardian is no longer present, pause and ask. If they do not return within a reasonable time, end the lesson. You will still be paid for a lesson you end for this reason.
  • Keep the camera on your teaching area, keep the lesson to the dance content booked, and keep your language and manner appropriate for a child. Follow PBT's safe teaching guidance for the age group.
  • Do not ask the child to change clothing on camera, to move to a private room, or to turn the parent's camera off.

3. No recording, no screenshots, no sharing

  • You must not record, screenshot, screen-capture, stream or photograph any part of a lesson with an under-18 student, by any means, including a second device.
  • You must not share anything about the child, the parent or the lesson with anyone, including on social media, even if the child is not named.
  • PBT does not record lessons. Our video provider carries the video and keeps only short-lived technical logs.

4. Using the child's details

  • You may use the child's first name and age only to teach the booked lesson. You must not store them outside PBT Connect, add them to any list, or use them to contact the family outside the platform.
  • If you keep teaching notes, keep them inside the PBT Connect lesson notes, not on your own device or in another app.
  • You must delete any child information you hold outside PBT Connect, and tell us if you discover you have any.

5. Reporting

  • If you see or hear anything in a lesson that makes you concerned for the child's safety or wellbeing, tell PBT at customerservice@pbt.dance within 24 hours. If you believe a child is in immediate danger, contact the emergency services where the child is first.
  • If you become aware that a recording, screenshot or sharing has happened, or that a child's details have been exposed, tell us immediately.
  • If you are contacted by a parent or child outside the platform about a lesson, do not respond; forward it to PBT.

6. Background checks

  • Submitting a background check to PBT is optional for marketplace teaching. Where the law in the child's location requires a check for teaching children, PBT will only let families there book you if you hold a current PBT-verified check. Where it does not, families will be shown clearly that you have not submitted one.
  • You must tell PBT within 7 days if a check you hold is cancelled, expires or is subject to any adverse finding, or if you are charged with or convicted of any offence involving children, violence, or sexual conduct.
  • Where you are required by the law of your own location to hold a check to teach children, you are responsible for holding it, regardless of what PBT requires.

7. If a parent withdraws consent

  • A parent can withdraw consent at any time, including during a lesson. If that happens, the session ends and you will see that the lesson has been ended by PBT. Do not try to reconnect or contact the family. You will be paid for the part of the lesson delivered, under the cancellation terms shown on the booking.

8. Suspension

  • PBT may immediately suspend your ability to teach under-18 students, or all teaching on PBT Connect, if we reasonably believe you have breached these terms or if a safety concern is raised. We will tell you what the concern is and give you an opportunity to respond, unless doing so would put a child at risk or interfere with an investigation.
  • Breaches of sections 2, 3, 4 or 5 are serious breaches of your Teacher Terms.

9. Where child lessons are available

  • Child bookings are currently available only for families in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union, and only for teachers in those places. PBT decides this by location rules and may change the list.

By accepting these terms you confirm you have read them and the PBT Connect Family Notice, and that you will follow them for every lesson with an under-18 student.

Reporting a concern

Write down what you saw and heard and email customerservice@pbt.dance within 24 hours. If a child is in immediate danger, call the local emergency services first.
