FAQs
Everything we get asked about PBT, grouped by topic. Choose a topic, or search to jump straight to an answer.
PBT is designed to be beneficial for everyone, regardless of any individual's age or skill level. The program is divided into categories based on ages.
Sub Junior Program (6 - 8 year olds): This program is tailored for dancers introducing them to the elements of PBT. It focuses on nurturing their development and providing an understanding of basic ballet technique.
Junior Program (9 - 11 year olds): Aimed at children this segment builds upon the fundamentals taught in the Sub Junior Program. It focuses on the development of strength and flexibility.
Senior Program (12 - 14 year olds): Designed for teenagers this level concentrates on techniques and incorporates strength building exercises that support the increasing demands of ballet training during this age.
Advanced Program (15 - Pre Professional): This program is geared towards serious ballet students as well as professional dancers who want to enhance their performance skills, stamina and technical precision.
Adult Program: (Beginner onwards); Specifically crafted for adult learners this program caters to both beginners and those with ballet experience. It focuses on body conditioning and improving technique.
These age recommendations are for students who are regularly attending ballet class. For recreational students (those attending a ballet class once a week or less) it is recommended for the students to start one level down and move up to the next level once they feel confident and secure with the exercises.
The quality of training takes precedence over simply progressing through levels. We encourage repeating classes and exercises, emphasising confidence over speed of advancement.
There are many benefits of practicing PBT, for dancers as well as any individual looking for a body conditioning program. Some of the benefits of PBT include:
Enhancing Strength & Stamina: PBT helps in the development of strength and endurance through meticulously targeting and working the muscles needed for ballet and other dance forms.
Increasing flexibility: Regular PBT practice can dramatically improve individuals flexibility through exercises that focus on stretching and lengthening of the muscles. PBT's ballet-inspired movements target the body's full range of motion with emphasis on gradual and controlled stretching.
Improved Posture and Alignment: PBT places a strong emphasis on cultivating proper posture, alignment, harmonious balance and coordination throughout their body. Participating in PBT, individuals will learn to maintain elegance and balance, contributing to a healthier spine as well as body alignment.
Elevated Body Awareness and Control: PBT deepens the understanding of an individual understanding of how their body moves and how the difficult muscles function together during movements. This increased body awareness helps dancers with greater control over their movements, helping to enhance their performance.
Injury Prevention and Recovery: PBT's balanced & targeted approach with non-weight bearing exercises not only helps prevent dance related injuries but also supports the rehabilitation process for those recovering from injuries, emphasizing technique and alignment for healthier movement patterns.
Boosted Coordination: PBT is designed to challenge and improve balance & coordination which is not only crucial in dance but all physical activities.
Improved Muscle Tone and Conditioning: PBT contributes to improved muscle tone and conditioning through targeted exercises that engage the deep core muscles along with stabilizing muscles of the back, hips and shoulders. By emphasising on slow, controlled movements that require precision and endurance, PBT effectively enhances muscle tone and leads to a stronger, more resilient body.
PBT is incredibly beneficial for those recovering from injuries and especially for injury prevention for dancers. The program does this through:
Strengthening supporting muscles: PBT exercises not only target the muscle groups used in dance but also focus on strengthening the muscles around the joints and core. By building up these supporting muscles, they provide support and stability during dance movements, reducing the risk of injuries.
Improving technique: PBT emphasises alignment and technique, helping dancers avoid mistakes that can lead to injuries, such as incorrect posture or imbalanced muscle usage.
Safely enhancing flexibility: PBT utilises specific ballet-inspired movements and positions that target the body's full range of motion, emphasising gradual, controlled stretches and strengthening exercises. Flexibility is crucial in dance but needs to be developed gradually to avoid overstretching or strain.
Promoting Body Awareness: Understanding one's body and its limitations plays a significant role in injury prevention. PBT deepens the understanding of an individual understanding of how their body moves and how the difficult muscles function together during movements. This increased body awareness helps dancers with greater control over their movements and helps students recognise when they are putting themselves at risk of injury.
Gentle on the body: PBT exercises offer a controlled approach with non-weigh bearing exercises, making it perfect for injury rehabilitation, especially for dancers.
PBT is designed to be introduced to anyone at any age or skill level but the earliest we recommend it should be adopted is at the age of 6 with the Sub Junior program. This level focuses on nurturing students development and providing an understanding of basic ballet technique.
Managing multiple ages and levels in a single PBT class, like combining Junior and Senior students, is quite feasible and not a problem with effective planning. Simply split the class into two groups. Start with exercises common to both levels, like "turnout," and use the same music to maintain a cohesive class flow. Though this requires a bit of extra class planning, each exercise is designed to progress and relate across levels, making it entirely possible to cater to different ages and skills in one session efficiently.
PBT offers an approach that complements ballet training, providing dancers with valuable tools. PBT is designed to be used alongside traditional ballet classes, acting as a helpful supplement to enhance and support the techniques learned in ballet.
PBT is designed to refine your technique holistically which in turn improves your performance. PBT works your muscle memory, refines your technique, and fostering an understanding of body mechanics. This results in controlled movements that contribute to an overall elevation of artistic quality in dance. Here are some of the aspects of how PBT helps improve performance:
Improved Muscle Memory: PBT exercises are specifically designed to ingrain movements into your muscle memory. This results in a fluid execution of ballet techniques, allowing you to perform complex sequences with greater ease and confidence.
Enhanced Technique: Through its targeted exercises, PBT helps refine your ballet technique by working on core strength, balance, alignment, and flexibility – all elements of ballet. This improvement leads to lines, better balance, and graceful movements.
Heightened Control and Precision: Through heightened body awareness fostered by PBT training, you gain control over your movements. This control is crucial for executing precise and nuanced choreography while minimising the likelihood of mistakes during performances.
Injury Prevention: Strengthening the muscles used in ballet and enhancing flexibility are components of PBT that contribute to injury prevention. By reducing the risk of injuries, you can perform consistently at any level.
Enhanced Artistic Expression: PBT not only enhances your skills but also allows for a deeper expression of artistry in your ballet performances. By managing the aspects, you can dedicate more attention to conveying emotions and telling stories through your dance.
Improved Stamina and Endurance: Engaging in PBT conditioning helps build stamina and endurance, crutical for any performance.
PBT is indeed suitable and recommended for individuals who engage in dance on a recreational basis. The program helps boost flexibility, strength, and overall body awareness, but above all, help reduce the risk of injuries. Regardless of whether someone takes dance seriously or pursues it more for fun and fitness, nobody wants to be injured, especially when it can lead to long-term harm to the body.
Yes, we do have an ambassador program and always thrilled to welcome new members to our team. If you're interested please reach out to us via email at customerservice@pbt.dance.
Please share some information about yourself and the team will connect you with the appropriate person for your region.
Fantastic! Regardless of your age or skill level, PBT is going to be fantastic for you. The first place to start would be to choose the level that is appropriate for you. Each level has an age recommendation connected to it; however, if you are dancing more for recreational purposes, then we advise starting a level down and building up once you feel confident and secure with the exercises.
We recommend using our online training platform, and within your level, navigate to the classes section where you will be able to follow along with a teacher through the exercises, which will slowly build in difficulty from class to class. We recommend you do each class 2 or 3 times before progressing to the next. If there are any particular areas you would like to focus on, for example, your Port De Bras, you can navigate to the appropriate category within each level of the website to find tutorials that are focused within the category level.
We have a directory of Certified PBT Teachers that you can use to find one in your area. Please navigate to the teachers' directory in the menu of our website, where you will then be able to filter by location, find any schools the teacher is currently teaching at, as well as email a teacher directly.
The best way to contact us is via email at customerservice@pbt.dance. Alternatively, please get in touch through a direct message via our social media platforms.
PBT is not limited to just ballet dancers; it also offers benefits for individuals seeking a program for general body conditioning.
Comprehensive Body Workout: PBT exercises target muscle groups promoting strength, flexibility and balance. This makes PBT a great workout routine, for people who don't dance but want a rounded fitness approach.
Preventing Injuries and Supporting Recovery: PBT is created to strengthen the core, improve balance, and develop muscle control as well as endurance. This unique approach not only aids in the proper execution of movements which reduce the risk of injury but facilitates the rehabilitation process.
For those recovering from injuries, PBT's low-impact exercises can be particularly beneficial, allowing for the gradual rebuilding of strength and flexibility in a controlled and safe manner.
Improved Posture and Body Awareness: Regular PBT training improves posture and body awareness, which benefits not only dancers but anyone looking to enhance their overall physical condition and body alignment.

The following is required for the workshop:

As it's crucial for all attendees to focus throughout, we will require your help in ensuring that your baby's presence doesn't cause a distraction.
Unfortunately we don't allow people to come and watch the workshop as it is distracting for others. If you're unable to participate in some of the exercises due to an injury, this is perfectly okay but active engagement in other ways is necessary to complete the course and receive certification. Even if you're not physically participating in some of the exercises, the instructor may ask you to discuss your understanding of the exercises by explaining how you would teach them to others. This kind of involvement is essential for a learning experience and meeting the certification criteria. Please get in touch with our team to discuss further via customerservice@pbt.dance
Yes, we can arrange for the workshop to be paid in instalments however, the final payment must be made before the workshop date. If you're interested in setting up a payment plan, please reach out to our customer service team at customerservice@pbt.dance.

Yes, two people are absolutely welcome to both share a device for an online workshop as long as both are individually registered.
In this situation, we do recommend to look at where you will both do the workshop to ensure there is enough space. Normally 5 square metres (or 55 sq. feet) is needed per person. We also encourage to connect a computer to a large screen or TV for the workshop so you can both clearly see the instructions & demonstrations.
Sometimes, we have equipment that you can buy at the workshop. If this option is available for your workshop, we will inform all registered participants.
It is ideal to have the notes printed for the workshop to allow you to easily write your own notes down as we go through the course. This will be helpful for quick reference when looking back through the exercises taught on the day. However, if printing is not possible or if you prefer, you can have the notes on your phone or tablet. In this case, we recommend having a notepad or digital tool ready to jot down your own personal notes.

Our workshops are designed to educate and equip attendees with the tools they need to succeed. We have a certified teachers directory on our website where you will be able to view the profiles of all our wonderful PBT certified teachers whilst filtering the list by location. Within each profile you will find a button to send the teacher an email if you would like to contact them.
Upon successful completion of a PBT Certification Teachers workshop you will be rewarded with the certification and have an opportunity to create a profile on our certified teachers directory. Being listed in the directory not only acknowledges your accomplishment but also increases your visibility to prospective students or dance studios searching for qualified PBT teachers.
No, the PBT Teachers Certification only equips you with the skills and knowledge to teach the program effectively to students. It doesn’t include the authority or responsibility of training and certifying other teachers.
The reason behind the requirement for teachers to renew their certification annually is to keep the certified teachers' directory updated with those currently actively involved in teaching PBT. This yearly renewal process ensures that a high standard of teaching is maintained within the PBT community and guarantees that students seeking PBT instruction are connected with teachers who not only hold certification but also actively practice and improve their PBT teaching skills. The renewal process has been designed to be simple. It doesn't consume too much time, consisting of just a few essential questions to verify your continued engagement in teaching PBT.
No, there is no requirement for you to make any payment for the renewal of your certification with PBT. The purpose of the renewal process is to ensure that our directory stays updated and showcases teachers who are actively involved in teaching PBT. This process primarily focuses on maintaining the accuracy and relevance of the directory rather than imposing any extra financial burden on teachers. Our objective is to offer students an up-to-date resource for finding PBT teachers and accurately portray the PBT teaching community.
If you're a certified teacher, you'll be automatically included in the teacher's directory once you have an online account with us. Here's how it works: if you've completed a workshop and received your certificate, simply sign up with the email you used for the workshop registration. This way, your account gets linked, and your profile will begin to show up in the directory.
For those who have completed their certification online, we'll upgrade your account automatically.
Afterward, you can personalise your profile by adding a photo, bio, and other details. Just head over to the 'account' section in your menu.

Absolutely, you can definitely record yourself performing the exercises for the assessments. However, it's important to remember that the purpose of the video submissions is to show how you would teach the exercise. So if you aren’t using a student, then ensure to provide verbal instructions, cues, and corrections as if you were teaching a student.
While it is ideal to have a student who's similar in age to the exercise level you are teaching, it is not absolutely necessary. If you choose to demonstrate the exercises using a student or even yourself for all levels, what really matters is adapting your teaching language to match the age group of the intended level. Make sure that your verbal cues, corrections, and instructions are suitable and relatable for the age group of the exercise. This shows your ability to adjust your teaching approach in order to effectively communicate and connect with students of all ages, which is a vital skill in providing effective PBT classes.
Certainly feel free to respond to the assessments in your preferred language. Even though the questions for the assessments are only available in English, Spanish or Chinese (Mandarin) you have the option to submit your answers and videos in any language that you find convenient. When we review your submissions we will utilise a translator to comprehend and evaluate your responses accurately.
Once you've submitted each section for review, we will work hard to review this as soon as possible but please allow up to 7 days. Our team works diligently to thoroughly assess each application, ensuring we evaluate your skills and comprehensive understanding of the PBT program. We appreciate your patience during this time. We are committed to providing a prompt and detailed response.
For the best results, it is generally recommended to practise PBT two to three times a week. This consistency will help to reinforce the muscle memory and enhance your strength and flexibility. However, it's important to always listen to your body and adjust your practice frequency based on your own comfort level whilst PBT will still be beneficial if you only have time for one session a week.
PBT exercises can certainly help to strengthen weak ankles. As PBT is mainly non weight bearing, it is excellent to help build up strength.
We recommended navigating to the ‘Feet & Allegro’ category of our website where you will find many exercises that will help with ankle strength.
Remember to listen to your body throughout these exercises and avoid overexertion. If you experience any discomfort or pain it's best to stop and seek advice from a healthcare professional.
Hypermobility can yield beautiful lines in ballet; however it's crucial to understand its spectrum and the potential dangers of flexibility without accompanying strength.
PBT assists with students with hypermobility issues through focusing on controlled movements, stability and targeted strengthening exercises whilst combining isometric (muscle contraction) and isotonic (dynamic muscle movement) exercises. This plays an important role in building strength and control around the joints which proves essential for those with hypermobility issues.
Throughout our video tutorials and in our training of certified teachers, we provide variations of exercises for those with hypermobility.
For individuals with scoliosis, engaging in PBT can be a safe and a beneficial practice, provided it is approached with care and appropriate modifications. PBT focuses on core stability, body alignment, and muscle awareness, which are crucial for managing scoliosis. In our research articles section of our website you will find a report entitled ‘Functional Body Awareness’. This is a story of Carolina Celeste Delfino, who despite her scoliosis and other physical challenges, found significant improvement in her condition through PBT. The report highlights the potential benefits of the program and her journey underscores the importance of muscle strength and flexibility in supporting the spine and maintaining alignment.
By focusing on exercises that enhance hip stability, spine lengthening, and overall posture, PBT can offer a targeted approach to managing scoliosis. It is, however, essential for students with scoliosis to work closely with knowledgeable teachers who can adapt exercises to their specific needs, ensuring safety and effectiveness. A common adjustment for exercises that involve bridging would be for the student to place their hands underneath their sacrum, providing support for the spine.
Carolina's experience illustrates that with dedication and the right approach, PBT can be a valuable tool in improving posture, reducing pain, and potentially mitigating the impacts of scoliosis.
When considering the transition to pointe work in ballet, it's paramount to prioritise the safety and readiness of the dancer. We recommend that dancers should not embark on pointe training until they have undergone at least three years of ballet training and are at least 11 years old.
To adequately prepare for pointe work, dancers should engage in our pre-pointe exercises for at least one year. These exercises, available in the junior program under the 'pre-pointe' category, are designed to build the necessary strength and flexibility. Additionally, it is beneficial to focus on 'feet & allegro' exercises within the same program. These are aimed at strengthening the intrinsic muscles of the foot, the calf, and the soleus, which are crucial for the control and endurance required in pointe work.
A strong core is also vital for success and safety in pointe work. Dancers are advised to work through the core exercises in the junior program to ensure they have the stability and body awareness needed for the complexities of pointe movements. This foundation not only supports the physical demands of pointe but also enhances overall ballet technique.
Before making the leap to pointe, a pre-pointe assessment by a dance physiotherapist or PT is recommended.
It's important to note that for recreational students, those attending ballet class once a week or less, pointe work should be delayed further. The frequency of training significantly impacts the dancer's ability to develop the strength and technique required for pointe.
Navigating the rehabilitation journey after a labral hip tear involves several critical steps. The first step is obtaining your doctor's approval before commencing any physical activity. The first part of rehabilitation would focus on non-weight bearing exercises which is why PBT is perfect.
We would suggest you continue with your regular PBT exercises however you should execute them in parallel on the side that you have the tear. Avoiding any external rotation will assist you with the healing process.
Adjustments to the intensity and technique of the exercises will likely be necessary, tailored to your healing process and comfort levels.
Tibial torsion refers to a condition where the shin bones twist, which can impact ballet dancers' alignment and movement. PBT exercises aim to improve proprioception, muscle memory, and alignment, all of which play a role in managing torsion.
PBT is unable to fix the bones however through working the deep muscles, it can help with the safe alignment for dance.
Regardless of the students age, we recommend practising the following Junior exercises:
Some key exercises a student should focus on include:
1. Bridge in 5th position (with the use of a stress ball or alternatively, just rolled up socks between the calf muscles).
2. Scissors with Obliques
3. Corkscrew preparation
These exercises assist with strengthening the knees and helping the student with safe alignment.
For students with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) or Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) when engaging in PBT exercises, it's vital for students to avoid exercises that involve the use of resistance bands.
Additionally, the focus should be preliminary on our strengthening exercises as opposed to those to improve flexibility. All exercises should be performed slowly with controlled movements.
Although it is not possible to change a student's bone structure, participating in PBT core exercises appropriate for their age can greatly assist in attaining safer alignment during training sessions. These exercises work on strengthening and stabilising the muscles around the core, leading to improved posture, balance and reduced strain on the back.
A student with a natural lordosis requires the activation of the pelvic floor and deep core muscles in order to protect any lower back strain. Please navigate to our Core & Posture category within each level to find exercises that will help.
PBT is primarily non-weight bearing so the program is perfect for rehabilitation and building up strength. It is important to keep the injured foot relaxed whilst healing. Most PBT exercises will be fine during recovery however it is best to avoid any exercises that involve wrapping the injured foot and exercises within our ‘feet & allegro category’ should only be performed on the non-injured side.
We do have structured classes available in each level which can be viewed, followed along with and then used as a PBT class structure. These can be accessed through our online training platform and navigating to ‘classes’.
We appreciate your enthusiasm! Generally, we recommend starting with Level 1 and applying what you've learned for at least three months before advancing to Level 2. This helps to ensure that you completely absorb the material and don't overlook any fundamental principles. However, we understand that some teachers might prefer to register for all three levels at once for convenience. While this is possible, please be aware that it's not the recommended path.
Often this is gas escaping from the joint capsule and will create a pop sound when performing large hip movements. If this is accompanied with pain, then it is important to stop immediately and seek advice from a physiotherapist or PT.
Note: Always take time to warm up the hips with PBT exercises before any class, students that perform large movements without being warm will often experience this pop or snapping noise.
Strengthening the deep rotators and your core will help with your turnout. We recommend practising all exercises within our Core & Posture as well as Turnout Categories in our online training platform.
It is extremely important to ensure you are not forcing turnout through ‘tucking the pelvis’. A neutral position for the pelvis is far more important than the extent of your turnout.
Often during growth spurts the patella ligament that is linked to the tibia can become irritated and inflamed however, as PBT is mostly non weight-bearing it is safe to practise the program. This will help students with their muscle strength during this time of growth.
One important exercise is entitled ‘Knee Health’ which is found in our ‘teacher resources category’ within each level. It is highly recommended for students to practise this exercise each day during this period.
As this is inflammation of the tendons, you have probably been advised to cut back on your dancing. However you can still practise everything in PBT to work on your strength during this period as it is non weight-bearing however, we would recommend to not engage in the foot wrapping exercises.
Firstly I suggest you practice PBT in a Backalast jacket for full support. Our ‘shoulder stability’ exercises found in the Senior and Advanced levels of PBT will be a great asset for you to strengthen all of your muscles around the shoulder grille.
The following equipment is needed to be able to engage in all of the PBT exercises across the various levels.
Exercise ball (fit ball). To ensure you have the correct size exercise ball, when sitting on a fully inflated ball with your feet flat on the floor, your hamstrings should be parallel to the ground. Different brands of exercise balls will provide you with a variety of size guidelines, so we can only recommend the correct size ball from our own PBT store.
S - For heights 116cm (3' 8"") to 142cm (4' 8"")
M - For heights 143cm (4' 8.5"") to 169cm (5' 5"")
L - For heights 170cm (5' 5.6"") and above
3 x Fusion Balls (also known as a small exercise ball or pilates ball). These are a lot smaller than an exercise ball. They are normally between 20-22cm (8-9in) in diameter when inflated.
Resistance Band (also known as a theraband). Essential for the band to be 3 metres long and around 15cm wide. For most exercises, a medium strength band is used however for younger students in the sub junior and junior program, we recommend starting with the lighter band option.
Massage ball (also known as a Lacrosse Ball). Certain PBT exercises incorporate the use of this ball for targeted muscle relief and activation.
All of this equipment is available for sale through our online store at www.pbtstore.com and we ship worldwide.
Generally sporting good stores will have the equipment needed for PBT however, we also have everything available through our store at www.pbtstore.com where we ship worldwide.
It is essential to avoid using weighted balls in any part of the PBT program. The use of a weighted fit ball could strain the body, which goes against the safety principles of PBT.
Studios that incorporate the PBT program, manage the equipment in a few different ways, however most commonly the studio would purchase the exercise balls and store them at the studio with each student having their own fusion balls, resistance band and massage ball that they would bring with them to class.
To store the exercise balls, studios would often have wall mounts placed high in the studios or within hallways or dressing rooms. Some studios would use netball hoops for this purpose or PVC pipe mounted to the wall either forming triangles for individual balls or long rectangle shelves (with balls next to each other) . There are lots of creative ways to make ball storage affordable as well as ensure the balls are not in the way when being stored.
The Backalast is a compression posture garment created by PBT designed to improve dancers’ posture and ultimately their performance by strengthening the thoracic spine and encouraging a neutral position for the head, neck and shoulders.
The Backalast features discreet layers of elasticated panels and webbing strategically placed to heighten awareness of key postural adjustments. It particularly emphasises maintaining a position for the shoulder blades, preventing winging, and providing a stable foundation for arm movements.
Crafted from breathable, multi-directional stretch fabric; the Backalast is uniquely reinforced with elasticated panels and discreet layers of webbing to heighten awareness of key postural adjustments and encourage a neutral position for the shoulder blades, thereby preventing winging and solidifying a stable base for arm movements.
By fostering better posture and alignment in dancers; the Backalast makes executing complex dance moves easier and most importantly, helps to reduce the risk of injury.
University studies in the USA and Australia have scientifically proven that the Backalast significantly reduces the lumbosacral angle difference, surpassing other garments and devices in joint angle reproduction and trunk proprioception.
The Backalast is an essential tool for dancers seeking to enhance their posture and overall performance.
The Backalast jacket is designed to be tight for effective posture correction. It should take some effort to zip it up, indicating that it is providing the pressure required. If you can zip up the jacket easily without effort, it might be too big. If you can't zip it up at all or feel uncomfortable beyond a snug and compressed fit you might need a larger size. Please reach out to customerservice@pbt.dance for assistance.
The Backalast is intentionally designed to have a tight fit but it also has the ability to stretch in all directions and then compress ensuring that it moulds comfortably to your body without restricting your movements.
To start with, it is recommended to wear your Backalast jacket for an hour. This initial period allows your body to adjust to the fit and functionality of the jacket. As time goes on, you can gradually extend the duration.
Many dancers, teachers, and experienced users comfortably wear their jackets for up to four hours. Always listen to your body. Only increase the time if it feels comfortable and natural.
PCT comprises a series of exercises specifically crafted to enhance the fluidity of movement in contemporary dance. PCT places emphasis on body articulation, encouraging dancers to delve into and cultivate a sense of flexibility. The program activates muscle groups through resistance and strength training while maintaining a relaxed state. It prioritises the articulation of the spine, building core strength, and synchronising breath with movement. PCT in built on the foundations of PBT and is the perfect program to help ballet students "find their freedom" for their contemporary classes.
PCT compliments ballet training by incorporating a wide range of movements that enrich artistic expression and enhance a dancer's versatility. While ballet training usually emphasises precision, alignment, and specific techniques; PCT introduces diversity in movement quality, allowing dancers to express a spectrum of emotions and narratives and equipping ballet dancers with the tools required to adapt to both classical and contemporary classes & performances.
PCT helps dancers enhance their body awareness, strengthen their muscles and provide an understanding of how different muscle groups work together during each movement. Moreover PCT improves mobility allowing for greater freedom and fluidity in movement. It also helps dancers become more proficient in floor transitions, weight shifts and the importance of musicality and breath in dance.
No you don't have to be PBT certified before attending a PCT workshop. Although these two programs complement each other and have some principles in common, they are separate when it comes to the specific skills and techniques they teach. Each program focuses on aspects of dance training so you can participate in a PCT workshop regardless of whether you're certified in PBT or not.
PBT Chinese Dance is a modified version of the PBT program that has been customised for the practice of Chinese Dance. It incorporates the principles of PBT, which emphasise strength, flexibility and technique while also integrating elements that are distinct to Chinese Dance. This program aims to elevate the abilities and expertise of dancers who have a focus on Chinese Dance.
PBT Chinese Dance concentrates on movements, postures, and expressions that are distinctive to Chinese Dance, ensuring that the PBT methodology is tailored and advantageous for this specific style of dance.
