Mobility Class 5 – Sub Junior Level, guided by Melissa McCabe, continues the progressive flexibility work of the series with a session that develops spinal awareness, hip control, postural alignment, and upper body strength in younger dancers.
The session emphasises moving with control and sequencing throughout — from the oblique and spinal work that runs through the class, to the hip activation and posterior chain exercises that build toward standing balance and working leg control. The closing sequence releases tension through the thoracic spine, hamstrings, and anterior chain, leaving the body open and mobile.
Tips
Encourage students to move through the spine sequentially — each section should contribute to the movement rather than the whole spine moving as one block.
In Beginner Hip Activation, cue the rotation initiating from the hip joint — watch for compensation through the pelvis.
Remind students that in mobility work, ease and control are the priority — not how far they go.
