This exercise helps students develop better precision and elevation in their temps levé while maintaining proper hip alignment and foot articulation. It also reinforces the importance of a correctly executed port de bras and the transition through a fondu (plié). This will help students to coordinate these elements smoothly and effectively in ballet routines.

Preparation: Position the student at the barre, with one hand resting lightly on it. Check students' hips are square to the front (devant alignment) and their working foot is placed on the fusion ball in a rotated devant.

Steps:

1. Prepare the port de bras on the music’s introduction, and execute a fondu at the end of the phrase.

2. While maintaining hip alignment, instruct students to stretch their supporting leg and return to the fondu position, performing a temps levé.

3. Focus on achieving a vertical spring under the body with a fully stretched foot.

4. Repeat this combination three times, then pivot (promenade) to face the barre and fondu at the end of the phrase.

5. Repeat the combination in à la seconde, ensuring students' hips remain square to the barre.

6. Have students return to the devant alignment.

7. Repeat the entire sequence on the alternate side.

Focus: Emphasise the importance of maintaining square hips to the front and remind students to focus on fully stretching their feet during the temps levé.
