Pilates Unlimited is owned and operated by Katrina Carey, a certified STOTT PILATES instructor who has been teaching Pilates in Brisbane since 2000.
My interest in Pilates first started when I was a professional dancer in my 20s. We were taught the importance of long, lean muscles and a strong core—how these elements would give us the strength and stamina to perform on stage as well as help prevent injuries.
I am now working with young dancers and adding the PBT to my students.
Please contact Pilates Unlimited for more info regarding class time and venues.
I have been a classical ballet teacher for 25 years. I completed the Australian Diploma of Dance Teaching and Management at Melbourne's Box Hill College of TAFE in 1992 under the ever watchful eye of the late Laurel Martyn OBE (pioneer and celebrated Australian dancer). My enthusiasm for sharing the joy of movement with young children, teens and adults is largely due to Laurel's passion for teaching and sharing movement with all which she promoted through her syllabus and her daily motto of 'Let them Dance'. Dance has been a part of my life since she was a child and later whilst living and working overseas. I have previously taught for the Victorian Ballet School, Miranda Kalgovas Ballet School and freelance teacher teaching classical ballet, contemporary and jazz dance. I now teach Classical Ballet from Pre-Primary to Adult for Over the Moon Yoga & Dance Studios in Castlemaine, Central Victoria.
I love the PBT program and find it to be extremely valuable to students in improving their strength and dance technique. The students have found it incredibly helpful in gaining a greater understanding of their bodies during ballet class, assisting in accessing and activating correct muscles, thus encouraging correct and positive muscle memory. I currently teach PBT to Level 4, Degree 1-3 and Senior Classical Ballet students.
I have been teaching classical ballet for over 40 years, and hold the RAD teaching certificate. For some years I taught for Prudence Bowen, RAD examiner, in Sydney, and also ran my own schools in NSW and Tasmania. I was also invited to teach ballet at Kondo Ballet in Japan, where I lived for 6 months. For the past 12 years I was Senior Teacher at Elancé Adult Ballet School, and am now freelancing in Melbourne, teaching classical ballet and the PBT program to both adults and children. I also am developing a program to teach ballet to blind students.
I find the PBT program an extremely valuable complement to students' ballet classes and am seeing very good results from the classes.
